WeiterlesenPSA There is a City Council Meeting next MONDAY Aug. 3 at 5:30pm. Make sure to show out and sign up to speak. Tell city council we want infrastructure that supports people in this city, and not harm the land around us and contaminate our water. We just want some sidewalks 😩😩

Weiterlesen🛑🚶♂️🚶♂️🚲🚲The city is closing down Elm St for 90 days (permanent and weekend) and turning it into a no-car zone. This is a huge win for all of us in Greensboro. Let’s make sure to support this effort and go spend time downtown later this summer and bring life back to our city. This pushes us to experience what it could feel like to have a city that is centered around people, and notice how much more we can gather and build community when the cars are not always in the way.
WeiterlesenThe Southeast Greenway needs repairs! Concrete is uneven and difficult for anyone (and people on wheelchairs or any wheels) to go over. Freeman Mill Rd, where people are often going 45mph+ runs right by it making it very unsafe for people going through the greenway itself. Who are those railings really protecting?

WeiterlesenGDOT has installed temporary “traffic calming” on Josephine Boyd, forcing cars ONTO the *unprotected* bike lane (actually it’s not even a bike lane) and closer to the sidewalk. This puts bicyclists and pedestrians in more danger. If you’re going to install traffic calming, at least design it well, and consider people instead of cars. Make sure to email the Director of Transportation johanna.
Weiterlesenthe city recently installed a LPI (leading pedestrian interval) which gives pedestrians a few seconds to start crossing this intersection before the light turns green. while this has made the crossing better, it isn’t enough. a curb extension and visible crosswalks would start to make the crossing safer. why have greenways that are for pedestrians and make the crossings unsafe?
WeiterlesenAlong the downtown Greenway the Permaculture Guild created an edible garden! Showing us what’s possible when we truly use public space to meet people’s needs. Here we have tons and tons of blackberries soon to be ready to eat!
Weiterlesenpolicing doesn’t just make some of us feel unsafe, it doesn’t solve the problem of speeding, in fact it’s a way for city officials city planners, and engineers to stop taking accountability for the way our roads are built. instead of trying to “enforce” the law, build a city that doesn’t look like a highway! invest in infrastructure that is safe for humans!

WeiterlesenCity of Greensboro has left what used to be a railroad crossing, (a gravel trail on Battleground) leading onto the rest of the A&Y trail connecting to Lake Daniel, Latham trails, and the Downtown Greenway With an embarrassing “Ride at Your Own Risk” sign, which tells us it’s dangerous to ride through these crossings but that if you are a bicyclist or pedestrian and you die, itll be your responsibility Battleground is poorly designed and dangerous and has so much potential to be a pedestrian hub with many small businesses.

WeiterlesenOn Friday May 22, @eliza.benbow will be hosting a journal-binding workshop at Glenwood Together using techniques she learned from Alan Brilliant, who was, among many things, a publisher and bookseller for over 50 years. Al made a lot of books throughout his life — some were made with handmade paper and woodblock illustrations at Unicorn Press in Santa Barbara, others with cereal boxes and floss at Glenwood Community Bookshop.
