Over the last three years, this group ride has been a game changer for Calgary and for the way our bike community comes together, connects, and finds each other. . Groups and rides like this are an important part of the fabric of Calgary and where our cycling community is headed. They create space for people to ride together, meet new people, build friendships, and remind everyone just how strong the bike community in this city really is.

Fun fact about most big group ride you can move a group of 200 people in about 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes, depending on the gaps. It's a pretty cool experience to watch so many people travel down the street together and move as one unit. 🚲♥️ I've recorded nearly every big group ride I've been on for the last five years, and it's always impressive to watch how efficiently a large group can move together.

What started off as a slow and tricky ride turned into a great evening with friends on bikes. 🚲♥️ Thank you to @criticalmass.yyc and everyone who kept things chill. Thank you to a strong bike community that knows how to handle itself. 🚲♥️ It's important that we all share the road and the space together. As a community, we always need to make ourselves heard and seen.

This weekend many cycling groups in the US are organizing rides in honour of Alex Pretti, the man recently killed by ICE in Minneapolis. Pretti was a cyclist and he died a hero. This Friday is Critical Mass. As we ride we will think not only of Alex but of the vulnerable community members he was defending.
